Agora Models - Cobra

an informational page for the Agora Models 1965 Shelby Cobra
427 Semi-Competition that i have built

One of 31 Competition cars from 1965 that became Semi-Competition, this model replicates every detail of the original Semi-Competition Cobras. Starting out as full Competition models, but denied FIA approval for the 1965 racing season, the 427 Semi-Competitions were completed as street cars, suitable for road and racing and marketed as the fastest production cars in the world.

The Cobra is a Carroll Shelby classic, described as a “delightfully mad idea made even madder: taking the ferocious 289 Cobra… and upgrading it with a massive 427”.

buying the model

there are a couple of options for obtaining this model, with the most popular being a monthly payment over 12 months and you receive one box a month with several parts of the kit. I chose to purchase the full kit in one go.

value

 i think the model is only slightly over priced, and perhaps around £850 would fit better, particularly because the final kit is not quite what you had been hoping for.

let me explain.

the quality of the car and parts are top notch and it looks amazing and impressively heavy with many metal parts.
The paint is amazing and there are so many detailed parts, perhaps a little to detailed in some places, where you just would never see them. for example the canister set has three pipes from engine bay that you attach to a unit under the car. this is just faff, and your never going to see this detail, and possibly not even realise they are there even if you did turn it over.
the lights are pretty good though, and all other details like the engine bay, exhaust etc are terrific.

no, the real let down is the tinny, horrible sound. to be honest, it would be worth so much more if they didn't add this feature. but the fact it is there and is appalling, really lowers the 'worth' or value of the model, from being a collectors item to almost just a kids toy.
thats even if you can activate all the sounds. the horn is fine as its a button on the dash, but revving the engine it almost impossible without something like a slim screwdriver. brake lights are also down there.

the tinny sound is unnerving, weak and very poor. the smallest speaker with not the slightest hint of bass. the V8 rumble you had built up in your mind during the build, is a let down. Really, they should just leave it out.
